Laos itinerary 1 week allows you to visit the most popular destinations, Vientiane, Luang Prabang, and Vang Vieng. Whether this is just an add-on in your travel plan or the main trip to Laos, the pacing is sufficient to capture all the highlights of the country.

Day 01: LUANG PRABANG ARRIVAL

On arrival in Luang Prabang, transfer to hotel and check in. Late afternoon, climb the stairs of Mount Phousi and watch the sun set over the city and surrounding hills. At leisure at night time. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 02: PAK OU CAVES & LUANG PRABANG

After breakfast, visit the famous temple – Wat Xieng Thong. Located at the end of the peninsula, close to the Mekong, this temple was built in 1560 by King Setthathirat. Then board a cruise to Pak Ou caves where there are hundreds of sacred centuries-old Buddha images. Back to town at noon time. The city tour begins in the afternoon with your guide who will help you to learn more about the World Heritage Town of Luang Prabang. Starts at the former Royal Palace, which is called the National Museum now. Then walk to Wat Mai, a temple renowned for its golden bas-relief. Continue walking to Wat Sensoukarahm, build in 1718 with its beautiful dazzling golden façade. End of the day, take part in a traditional Baci ceremony to welcome you to Laos. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 03: LUANG PRABANG – KUANG SI

Optional: An optional early start gives you the fantastic opportunity to participate in the daily morning ritual of alms giving to saffron clad monks. Return to the hotel for breakfast. After breakfast visit Wat Visoun, the holiest temple of the city, entirely rebuilt after being destroyed in 1887 by the invading Black Flags from Southern China. Continue to Wat Aham and then go to Wat That where the ashes of King Sisavang Vong are kept. This afternoon, take a ride out of town to Kuang Si Waterfalls (32km southwest of the city). Stop en-route to visit a small village which is home to one of the area’s many ethnic minorities. You will have an opportunity to learn about their traditions and culture, much of which has remained unchanged for centuries. Upon reaching Kuang Si Waterfall, relax and enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings and visit the bear sanctuary next to the falls. Back to town. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 04: LUANG PRABANG – VANG VIENG

After breakfast, depart for a drive down the spectacular Route 13 towards Vang Vieng, taking roughly 5 hours. Stop in Kasi, a fruit growing area along the way. Arrive in Vang Vieng, a small town on the banks of the Nam Song River surrounded by spectacular limestone karst scenery. The rest of day is free for your own leisure. Overnight in Vang Vieng.

Day 05: VANG VIENG – VIENTIANE

Drive to Vientiane. On the way stop at Nam Ngum Lake (2 hour drive), the largest lake in Laos. This man-made lake was built for the first hydroelectric dam ever built in Laos. Continue to Vientiane (2.5 hour drive). Check in and at leisure. Overnight in Vientiane.

Day 06: VIENTIANE

Visit the highlights of Vientiane including: Wat Sisaket, Wat Phra Keo, Wat Simuang. In the afternoon, continue to the Patuxay monument, Laos’ version of the Arc de Triomphe, where you can climb the stairs to the roof for sweeping panoramic views of the city. Your tour then ends at That Luang, the holiest site in Laos. Overnight in Vientiane
