Must-visit places in Cambodia
Although from backpackers to luxury travelers, all kinds of tourists continue to flock to Cambodia to visit legendary Angkor Wat, the symbolic attraction is only the beginning of the charm of Cambodia. There are some of the most spectacular places in Cambodia that you need to visit from untouched jungles, pristine beaches to awesome architectural feats. Indochina tours Cambodia
Koh Tonsay in Cambodia
Only a 20-minute boat ride away from Kep, Koh Tonsay which is secluded, untouched and simple, has a distinct feeling completely removed from civilization. Dotted with a few rustic open-air restaurants and bungalows, the island is an ideal place to lose a few days strolling along the tree-lined beach, going swimming and lounging in hammocks. The shape resembling a rabbit is the origin of the name of the island. You can definitely explore this rabbit-shaped circumference by walking all the way around in a single day. Koh Tonsay, which has no air-conditioning, television and wireless Internet access, is one of a few remaining island paradises in Southeast Asia.
An awesome two-tiered waterfall of Popokvil Waterfall, which is set in Bokor National Park, looks especially spectacular during the rainy season. The area is still quite pretty even though the appearance of the surrounding rainforest has been somewhat marred by the building of an enormous casin
o on the hill summit. Perhaps due to the ever-present surrounding mist, the waterfall takes its name from an expression that means ‘swirling clouds’. Not only being a perfect place to make a stop for a refreshing swim, it is also a place where you can catch a closer glimpse of the endangered animals that live in the area, such as the Malayan sun bear and the pig-tailed macaque if you are lucky.
Ream National Park
Encompassing over 81 square miles of natural beauty, Ream National Park, which is located 16 miles north of Sihanoukville, includes tumbling waterfalls, coral reefs, two islands, miles of unspoiled beaches and mangrove forests. In this park, there are more than 200 bird species inhabiting, including endangered species such as: the Brahminy kite and white-bellied sea eagle. For boat trips, forest treks or simply taking in the gorgeous scenery, the park is an ideal spot. Ream National Park, like several untouched natural attractions in Cambodia, is now facing constant threat from developers, so before serious changes begin to take place, it is best to visit sooner rather than later.
Being a wild, sparsely populated area of Cambodia, Mondulkiri, which is dotted with valleys, waterfalls, jungles and rolling hills, is home to some of the most rare and endangered wildlife of this country, including elephants, water buffaloes and leopards. Almost 50% of the population of Mondulkiri is from the Bunong minority group, who hunt for almost their food. If you want to visit traditional villages and interact with elephants in their natural habitat, there is no better place than this fantastic region. It is a perfect area for hiking and trekking thanks to the stunning scenery, cool climate and wildlife-viewing opportunities. Tours in Cambodia
Being one of the most stunning islands in the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Rong, which has turquoise-green waters and white sands, could go toe-to-toe with any of tropical paradises in Thailand. In the evening, it is possible for travelers to catch a glimpse of an evocative illumination in the dark night-time waters created by the bio-luminescent plankton. Besides the sandy beaches lining the coast, the interior of the island is filled with relatively pristine forests inhabited by birds as well as other wildlife. This island is still fairly peaceful and undeveloped although trekking, snorkeling and diving can all be arranged.
