Fairly unspoiled and surrounded three sites by the Gulf of Thailand, the town of Sihanoukville, also known as Kompong Som, is an optimum destination for the visitors who savor moments of relaxation and peace. It used to be an old coastal port and has been exploited for tourism development for several past few years.
White-sand beaches and inshore islands are two amongst the most precious presents that The Creator give Sihanoukville, rendering this town breathtaking and magnificent. When you arrive at this stunning town, pristine beaches with crystal-clear water will definitely take your breath away, inspiring you a feeling of enjoying staying here forever. A number of the beaches are filled with natural green grass with which local cows have meals, which always draws visitors’ attraction and curious stares. Some of the beaches are rocky, a couple are big resorts and some are pure sandy beaches. You can choose any of them to stay depending on your interest and budget. Of all the beaches, privately owned Sokha beach is regarded as the best of Sihanoukville’s beaches thanks to 1-kilomtre wide white sand, placid water perfect for swimming and a 5-star resort complex.
Almost everyone visiting Sihanoukville should not miss a trip to Koh Rong Island to see the so-called phosphorescent sea on their own. It takes visitors more than two tired hour to reach the island from Sihanoukville by boat, but it does not matter if you get there on an exciting party boat with foods, drinks and singing. What is more wonderful is that the boat will drop in a small island with nothing but rocks, plants and animals for lunch and scuba diving to explore colorful coral reefs. Once your boat reaches the island, its picturesque scenery is in sight. Now, await until the dark cover everything but one: phosphorescent sea, especially at night without moonlight.
You will not have to worry about where to stay during your vacation in Sihanoukville because the town offers a substantial number of accommodations ranging from some dollars a night in mid-range places to thousands of dollars in luxurious resorts for upper class. Restaurants and bars are also thoroughly considered, planned and built to meet the demand of the moderate number of visitors to Sihanoukville. Fresh seafood, especially crabs, prawns and ocean fish, has been always one of the town’s biggest draws, cooked in foreign cuisines, say, Australian, French, Indian, German, British or Italian.
