Situated just north of the Perfume River, right in the heart of Hue city, the Citadel is one of the most popular attractions. Once being a forbidden city, only accessible by emperors and mistresses; the Citadel today remains an impressive symbol of the city with unique cultural and historical significance.

Along the perfume river, travelers can find a large amount of pagodas, temples and tombs of the former emperors scattered roughly. Thien Mu Pagoda, Minh Mang Tomb, Tu Duc Tomb and Khai Dinh Tomb are some of the most notable. Scattered throughout the city of Hue are a central train station and a large amount of bus stations, which makes your arrival at and from this city not too difficult and accessible. Located about 20-minute drive by car from the center of Hue City, just south of Hue, is Phu Bai International Airport, which caters for not only domestic but also international flights.

 About 95% of the road traffic in Vietnam comes from motorbikes making it the most popular means of transport in Vietnam. In Hue, it is also easy to buy or rent motorbikes at relatively affordable price. It costs you approx. 50 000 – 100 000 VND per day (2.50 – 5.00 USD) to rent a motorbike. Although not being as big as Saigon and Hanoi, Hue also witnesses huge volumes of modes of transport, which can not only be dangerous but also daunting for inexperienced expats riding motorbikes. Being a fairly small city, Hue city is suitable to travel around by bicycle – a safer and practical method.


Thanks to its relatively small size, Hue does not suffer problems of many bigger cities. Therefore, this city is very much believed safe with a very low crime rate. In spite of the development, Hue has still preserved a very comfortable and peaceful nature about it. Generally, people in Hue are all very welcoming and hospitable, however, it is better for you to look after and take safe guard your personal belongings and valuables to avoid any troubles.

For expats, depending on facilities, rooms vary around 90.00 to 150.00 USD per month. And they have to pay approximately 350.00 USD per month for antire multiple story houses.
