This morning, we take a walk to the Hoi An Ancient City. Spend a half day joining the hands-on cooking class to learn how to cook some authentic Vietnamese cuisine.
Start with a visit to Hoi An’s colorful market, and experience the amazing sights, sounds, and aromas of this busy market. We will have the opportunity to interact with the local sellers and learn about all the ingredients to be used in the cooking lesson later.
We board the boat for a leisurely cruise (25 minutes) along the Hoi An River to the Cooking School. This is a chance to view local river life, so make sure your camera is handy.
On arrival, we explore the cooking school’s herb garden before learning about some of Hoi An’s and Vietnam’s well-known dishes. The cooking lesson runs for about 2 hours – the chefs first demonstrate each dish before we prepare the same dish ourselves. Included in the class is a brief introduction to Vietnamese food carving (plate decoration). After the lesson, we sit down and eat what we have cooked.
Back to the town and explore the Ancient Town, which has a distinct Chinese atmosphere with low, tile-roofed houses and narrow streets. The original structure of some of these streets still remains almost fully intact. All the houses were made of rare wood, decorated with colorful lacquered details and panels engraved with Chinese characters. Visit the Kwan Temple, Phuc Kien Chinese Assembly Hall, Tan Ky Old House, Japanese Covered Bridge and the Historic & Cultural museum in Hoi An.
Back to your resort after sightseeing, or spend the evening on your own in the town.
