Dream Holiday in the middle of pandemic

We engaged Indochina Voyages after seeing their reviews on Tripadvisor. Their Travel Consultant, Minh Vu, has prepared a 17-day custom tour for us covering the highlights of Vietnam and Cambodia – Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa, Hue, Hoi An, Siem Reap and Koh Rong Samloem Island.
From the first inquiry up until we safely returned home, their service and communication were excellent! We started planning our trip well in advance and Minh Vu was very patient with us while working through the itinerary. As we planned our trip, he listened to all our requests and interests and gave very valuable advice until we finally had the dream holiday plan in our hands. It should be noted that Cambodian islands are not serviced by Indochina Voyages, but Minh Vu kindly offered to arrange transfers for us and provided recommendations for where to stay.

We were due to travel at the start of March 2020 and as our travel date was coming closer, the uncertainty around the spread of Covid-19 virus was rising. We reached out to Minh Vu to better understand the situation in the Region, who gave us a very thorough description with statistics and government measures. We corroborated some of the facts based on our own research and concluded that it was safe to travel. While we were waiting on our departure we had couple of demand driven accommodation cancellations, which were quickly replaced by Minh Vu with the free upgrade to a more premium class. Few days before our departure, Minh Vu sent us an email full of useful travel information, including visas, currencies, weather, clothes, essential items, tips, etc.

On arrival, the excellent service continued with punctual drivers and knowledgeable guides at each point of our journey. We had a great mix of personal guides from very experienced trained tour guides to young freelancers, so we got the best insights you won’t find in travel brochures. All hotels and restaurants were excellent in terms of quality and location. The itinerary itself was very well balanced in terms of activities and time to relax.

Half way through our journey the WHO declared a Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, we had a few planned attraction closures and internal flight changes. Minh Vu was quick to offer alternatives and worked tirelessly to ensure we complete our journey with very little disruption. He was very responsive and helpful even outside of office hours.

Our original and alternative return flights were both cancelled, and we were stranded on the paradise island of Koh Rong Samloem. Although a little nerve wrecking experience, we had 5 bonus days in this absolutely incredible place. All this time Minh Vu was staying in touch and also helping us to search for alternative flight options. When we eventually were able to secure a flight home, he made sure that the driver met us on the pier on time and transferred to airport in comfort.

All-in-all we still can’t believe that we had such a smooth dream holiday in the middle of pandemic. All thanks to Minh Vu and Indochina Voyages. We would highly recommend Indochina Voyages – these guys really know what they are doing and the best value for money to travel in the Region.
