This Vietnam 14 day itinerary gives you a deeper experience of Vietnam’s rich culture and stunning landscapes. What makes this tour special is how it mixes guided tours with free time. You’ll have expert guides to show you the important sites, but also plenty of time to explore on your own or relax at the beach.

You’ll start in the historic capital of Hanoi, then travel to the spectacular limestone formations of Ninh Binh and Halong Bay. Next, you’ll explore the imperial heritage of Hue before relaxing in charming Hoi An with its ancient streets and nearby beaches. Your adventure ends in bustling Ho Chi Minh City, where old and new Vietnam come together.

We’ve balanced guided tours with plenty of free time, so you can explore at your own pace. Your package includes 13 nights in comfortable hotels, daily breakfast, knowledgeable English-speaking guides, all domestic flights, and entrance fees to attractions.

Day 1: HANOI ARRIVAL

Your guide meets you at Hanoi airport and takes you to your hotel. You can rest from your flight or take a walk around the nearby streets to get your first look at Vietnam’s capital city.

DAY 2: HANOI HALF-DAY TOUR

Today you’ll explore Hanoi on foot, getting a real feel for local life. Your guide will take you through a local market where you can see the fresh ingredients that make Vietnamese cuisine so special. You’ll visit O Quan Chuong, Joseph Church, and the elegant Hanoi Opera House. Your tour continues to the peaceful Sword Lake at the heart of the city. The highlight for many is a cyclo ride through Hanoi’s busy streets, giving you a unique perspective of the city.

Optional tour: Hanoi Street Food Adventure

In the evening, you can join an optional street food tour (not included) to discover Hanoi’s amazing food scene. Your guide will take you through bustling night markets and hidden alleyways where locals eat. You’ll sample famous dishes like pho (noodle soup), bun cha (grilled pork with noodles), banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich), and egg coffee.

Between bites, you’ll learn about the history behind each dish and how it fits into Vietnamese culture. This 3-hour walking tour lets you experience Hanoi like a local and discover why Vietnamese cuisine is famous worldwide.

DAY 3: HANOI FREE DAY

You have the entire day to explore Hanoi at your own pace. You might want to visit museums like the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, shop for souvenirs in the Old Quarter, or simply relax in one of Hanoi’s many cafes and watch city life unfold.

DAY 4: HANOI - NINH BINH - TAM COC BOAT TRIP - DANCING CAVE

Today you’ll travel to Ninh Binh province, known for its dramatic limestone karsts rising from rice fields. You’ll visit the ancient capital of Hoa Lu and then take a private boat trip through Tam Coc, often called “Halong Bay on land.”

After having lunch at a local restaurant, you’ll explore the countryside by bicycle, riding through small villages and rice fields. The day ends with a visit to Dancing Cave, where you can climb to a viewpoint for amazing views of the surrounding landscape.

Tam coc boat trip

DAY 5: NINH BINH - HALONG PORT - BAI TU LONG BAY - OVERNIGHT ON CRUISE

Your driver picks you up early for the journey to Halong Bay. Around noon, you’ll arrive at Sunworld International Harbor and board the Tonkin Cruise boat. After a welcome drink and safety briefing, you’ll check into your cabin and enjoy lunch while cruising through the beautiful waters of Bai Tu Long Bay.

In the afternoon, you’ll have the chance to kayak through hidden lagoons, swim in clear waters, and relax on the beach at Cap La. As evening approaches, you’ll enjoy the sunset party during Happy Hour while the boat cruises to the overnight anchoring spot. A delicious BBQ dinner awaits you, followed by free time for board games, squid fishing, or simply relaxing with drinks at the sky bar.

DAY 6: CONG DO - VUNG VIENG FISHING VILLAGE - HALONG PORT- HANOI - FLIGHT TO HUE

Start your day with early morning Tai Chi on the sundeck as the sun rises over the bay. After a light breakfast, you’ll visit Vung Vieng Fishing Village by bamboo boat, where you’ll see how local fishing communities have lived for generations. Back on the main boat, you’ll have time to relax before enjoying lunch as you cruise back to shore.

After disembarking, you’ll transfer to Hanoi for your flight to Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam. Upon arrival, your guide will meet you and take you to your hotel in Hue.

DAY 7: HUE FULL DAY CITY TOUR

Today you’ll discover the royal heritage of Hue. You’ll take a dragon boat trip on the Perfume River, which flows through the heart of the city. You’ll explore Hue’s ancient Imperial City, a vast complex of palaces, temples, and gates that was once the seat of Vietnam’s emperors.

In the afternoon, you’ll visit the elaborate tomb of Emperor Tu Duc, set in a beautiful landscape of ponds and gardens. Before returning to your hotel, you’ll have time to browse the local goods at Dong Ba Market.

DAY 8: HUE - HAI VAN PASS - DANANG - HOI AN

Your journey takes you from Hue to Hoi An along one of Vietnam’s most scenic routes. You’ll drive over the Hai Van Pass, which offers breathtaking views of the coastline below. After a stop in Da Nang, you’ll continue to Hoi An, a charming ancient town known for its well-preserved architecture. The rest of the day is yours to relax or begin exploring this beautiful town.

DAY 9: HOI AN WALKING ANCIENT TOWN

This morning, you’ll take a walking tour of Hoi An’s Old Quarter. Your guide will show you the town’s key attractions, including ancient merchant houses, Chinese assembly halls, and the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge. The afternoon is free for you to continue exploring, shop for souvenirs, or perhaps get clothing custom-made by Hoi An’s famous tailors.

DAY 10: FULL DAY BEACH RELAXATION

Enjoy a day to relax at one of Hoi An’s beautiful beaches. You can take a taxi to An Bang or Cua Dai Beach, rent a beach chair, and spend the day swimming and sunbathing. Alternatively, you can take the opportunity to join our optional tour (not included).

DAY 11: FULL DAY BEACH RELAXATION

After days of exploration, this second day of leisure allows you to truly unwind on Hoi An’s pristine beaches. This downtime also gives you a chance to reflect on your Vietnamese adventure before heading to the bustling energy of Ho Chi Minh City.

DAY 12: HOI AN - DA NANG AIRPORT - FLIGHT TO HO CHI MINH CITY - HALF-DAY CITY TOUR

Our driver will pick you up at the hotel this morning and take you to the airport in time for the early departure to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). When you arrive, our driver and guide will greet you and take you to the city center to check into your hotel.

We begin our half-day city trip in Ho Chi Minh City in the late afternoon with signature famous attractions just a few highlights:

  • The Old Post Office: Stunning colonial-era building in Ho Chi Minh City with shops and cafes.
  • Notre Dame Cathedral: Iconic landmark in Ho Chi Minh City with a striking red brick facade and beautiful stained glass windows.
  • Independence Hall: Historical site in Ho Chi Minh City with significance in Vietnam’s history, especially during the Vietnam War.
  • War Remnants Museum: Somber museum in Ho Chi Minh City showcasing the impact of the Vietnam War through photographs and exhibits.
  • Ben Thanh Market: Busy marketplace in Ho Chi Minh City for shopping, street food, and a lively atmosphere.
    Besides, on the way, you may well have some local touch moments with lesser-known attractions.

DAY 13: HO CHI MINH CITY FREE DAY

This free day lets you dig deeper into the aspects of Ho Chi Minh City that interest you most. The city offers everything from cutting-edge art galleries to historic temples tucked between skyscrapers. You might discover hidden coffee shops where locals gather or explore trendy neighborhoods like District 1.

Alternatively, the optional Mekong Delta tour (not included) reveals a completely different side of Vietnam – where life moves at the pace of the mighty river, and floating markets have operated for generations. The Cu Chi Tunnels option provides an up-close look at the ingenuity and resilience that defined Vietnam’s resistance forces.

DAY 14: HO CHI MINH CITY DEPARTURE

Enjoy your final breakfast in Vietnam before being transferred to Tan Son Nhat International Airport for your departure flight. Your driver will ensure a smooth transfer to the airport, giving you time to purchase any last-minute souvenirs or perhaps enjoy a final cup of Vietnamese coffee before your departure flight.
