Best time to visit Koh Samui

Even though the weather is different between months, one thing you can be sure of, Koh Samui is warm for all year round ensuring you can leave your cold clothes at home. 

The best time to visit Koh Samui is from late December to April as it is dry season and the weather is very comfortable with little rain and a lot of suns. The average temperature is from 25°C – 28°C. 

From May to September is expected to be the hottest months with high temperature fluctuates around 26°C – 33 C °C, the short shower is expected during the day. For those who enjoy warm weather and would not like to see so many tourists, this is a good time to go. 

The rainy season falls in October and November with the high possibility of rain every day. The sea is expected to be very rough so it is difficult to find a good beach. Still, if you are lucky, you can find a string of sunny days without rain. Also, if you want to save money, it is a good time to go since most of the hotels will offer a great deal.

Koh Samui island offers many things from splendid natural (beach, national park, waterfall) to man-made attractions such as mummified monks to the famous grandma and grandpa rocks (Hin Ta & Hin Yai). 

On the other hand, from Koh Samui, you can do day trips to Koh Tao where is one of the best places for scuba diving and snorkeling. Except for November and early December, every month of the year can be considered a good time for these activities, especially the best time is in January. Ang Thong Marine National Park features towering limestone mountains, thick jungle, white-sand beaches, waterfalls, and hidden coves; and lakes is a great place to explore on a day trips from Koh Samui. How to get from Bangkok to Koh Samui

You have 4 main choices for getting from Bangkok to Koh Samui as below.

Flight is the easiest and quickest way to get to Koh Samui from Bangkok. There are numerous flights per day operated by Bangkok Airlines, Thai Airways. There is more cost-saving way is that you can flight from Bangkok to Surat Thani and then take a ferry across to Koh Samui. Still, if you choose this option, please note that you will have to add at least 3 hours to your travel time due to time waiting at the airport and ferry. 

A less expensive way combination of train- ferry which actually takes a long time to get. It is 9 hours by train and then 4 hours by bus and ferry after arriving Surat Thani from Bangkok. The train ride is fun but you must get quite tired. 

The cheapest option is combine of bus and ferry. However, the bus ride is a long ride and quite uncomfortable. If you are trying to decide between bus and train, definitely take the train.

Useful tips to travel to Koh Samui

During the dry season from December to April, it is considered as high season in Koh Samui. Therefore, if you plan to go there in this period, you should have the hotels reserved before you go. 

In the hot season, make sure to have sun cream/sun hat to protect when going out. 

When traveling to Koh Samui in the rainy season, even though if you like adventure, try to avoid driving motorbikes and stay at a resort not too isolated. There will be possibilities that your trip or plan can be canceled by bad weather and prepare a backup plan for that. Bring a raincoat and extra T-shirts on your bag when going out for tours/activities. Also, use insect repellent, especially in the rainy season and avoid direct contact with floodwater as it carries a lot of bacteria.
